AeroPress Brewing Guide

Master the art of AeroPress coffee with this comprehensive brewing guide.

About This Method

The AeroPress is compact, quick, and extremely versatile. By combining immersion brewing with gentle pressure, it produces a clean and concentrated cup with plenty of sweetness. It is an excellent choice for brewing at home, at work, or while traveling.

Recipe

Coffee 16 grams
Water 240 grams
Water Temperature 195°–200°F
Brew Time About 2 minutes
Grind Size Medium-fine

Tools Needed

  • AeroPress and Filter
  • Burr Grinder
  • Kettle
  • Digital Scale & Timer
  • Sturdy Mug or Server

How to Brew

  1. Heat the water to 195–200°F.
  2. Place a paper filter in the cap and rinse it with hot water. Attach the cap to the AeroPress and set it over a sturdy mug.
  3. Grind 16 grams of coffee medium-fine and add it to the chamber.
  4. Start the timer and pour 50 grams of water over the coffee. Gently stir to saturate all the grounds.
  5. At 30 seconds, continue pouring until the scale reaches 240 grams.
  6. Insert the plunger slightly to create a seal and allow the coffee to steep until 1 minute and 30 seconds.
  7. Press down slowly and evenly for about 30 seconds, stopping when you hear a soft hiss.
  8. Swirl the brewed coffee, allow it to cool slightly, and enjoy.

Pro Tips

  • If the cup tastes sour or thin, grind slightly finer or extend the steep time.
  • If it tastes bitter or dry, grind slightly coarser or use cooler water.
  • Press gently. Excessive pressure can push more sediment into the cup.
  • Try a metal filter for more body or a paper filter for a cleaner finish.
  • The AeroPress rewards experimentation. Start with this recipe, then adjust one variable at a time until the cup tastes exactly how you like it.

Enjoy Your Coffee

Remember, brewing coffee is both a science and an art. Don't be afraid to experiment and adjust the recipe to suit your taste preferences. Happy brewing!
