Cold Brew Brewing Guide

Master the art of Cold Brew coffee with this comprehensive brewing guide.

About This Method

Cold brew is made by steeping coarse coffee grounds in cool water for several hours. The slow extraction produces a smooth, concentrated drink with low perceived acidity and a naturally sweet character. Prepare it in advance and serve it over ice, with water, or with milk.

Recipe

Coffee 100 grams
Water 800 grams
Water Temperature Cool or Room Temperature
Brew Time 12-16 Hours
Grind Size Coarse

Tools Needed

  • Cold Brew Brewer or Covered Container
  • Burr Grinder
  • Digital Scale
  • Fresh, Filtered Water
  • Fine Mesh Strainer and Paper Filter if Needed

How to Brew

  1. Grind 100 grams of coffee coarse and place it in the brewer or container.
  2. Add 800 grams of cool, filtered water.
  3. Stir gently to make sure all the grounds are completely saturated.
  4. Cover the brewer and steep for 12–16 hours. Brew at room temperature for a stronger extraction or in the refrigerator for a gentler one.
  5. Strain the coffee carefully without pressing or squeezing the grounds.
  6. For a cleaner concentrate, pass the coffee through a rinsed paper filter after the first filtration.
  7. Serve over ice, beginning with equal parts cold-brew concentrate and water or milk. Adjust to taste.
  8. Refrigerate the remaining concentrate in a clean, sealed container and enjoy it while it tastes fresh.

Pro Tips

  • A coarse, consistent grind makes filtration easier and reduces harshness.
  • If the concentrate tastes weak, extend the steep time or use more coffee. If it tastes woody, bitter, or dry, shorten the steep time or grind coarser.
  • Keep the concentrate refrigerated and use clean equipment throughout preparation.
  • For ready-to-drink cold brew instead of concentrate, use approximately 80 grams of coffee per 1,000 grams of water.
  • Cold brew is simple, flexible, and easy to prepare in larger batches. A consistent ratio (1:15) and careful filtration create a refreshing coffee that is ready whenever you are.
